Summer’s still here, but the time has come to plan the Autumn Term! I have some exciting news, which is that I might be returning to my Creative Writing Teaching Roots in sunny Sutton, to run a Weds or Friday morning course. It’s early days, but it may make a nice alternative to Forest Hill – where I’ll continue in the evening, on a Tuesday. I’m also hoping to squeeze in a Comedy-Writing Workshop – perhaps even start a season of workshops as an alternative to coming on a longer course (or as an extra treat).

I’m starting Course 2, Developing Characters and Writing Fiction on Tuesday 9 September at Forest Hill Library, 5.15pm – 7.15pm. This builds on Course 1, Approaches to Creative Writing which we completed in June, and includes characterisation, writing a good beginning, short story structure, character within place and more.

I hope to be starting a new season of courses, probably beginning with Approaches to Creative Writing. Venue TBC, but it’s likely to run on either a Wednesday or a Friday morning and there are some interesting potential venues near to the railway station in the pipeline.

As ever, I’m open to online students, and now have a list of four potential pupils. I need more before running an online course, so please Contact Me if you’re interested in online. I’d start with Approaches to Creative Writing (online).

I’m also hoping to run a half-day Comedy-Writing workshop, before the new term starts on 9 Sept. This would be at The Brookmill pub, in St Johns SE8, where there are fabulous AV facilities for all the great comedy clips. I ran the Comedy-Writing Workshop as part of the Brockley Max festival and it went down very well, so would like to give it another airing – it was fun. Dates would be either Friday 29 August from 1pm-5pm, or possibly Friday 5 September from 1pm-5pm if that suits people better. If the workshop format is popular I have a long list of potential subjects, such as Nature Writing, Memoir/Autobiography into Fiction and more. Further workshops could run in either Forest Hill, St Johns, Sutton, or all three!
